Chapter 3

“What do you want?” Morrison Jones snapped.

Ryan moved forward into the dim apartment in the abandoned building where Morrison resided. The deserted building was in a rundown section of the Bronx and quite unobtrusive. Morrison could run his illegal dealings there without attracting the notice of the police. He saw Morrison sitting in a recliner, looking bigger than life. Morrison Jones was a huge African American man that could intimidate a person just by looking at them. And Ryan was no exception. However he and Morrison had history that went way back. They had run some scams together a few years ago and made a lot of money from them. Morrison was always in for a good con.

“I have a proposition,” Ryan said.

“Another one? Aren’t you the enterprising one?” Morrison chuckled. “The last venture proved quite profitable for me; although it didn’t pan out for you. I hear Treveign is healing nicely.”

There were two African American men and one Caucasian man sitting around the room. They moved to stand behind Morrison.

“How would you know?” Ryan snapped.

Morrison shrugged. He leaned his bald head against the chair back while crossing his arms over his chest.

“Word gets around,” he said evasively.

“What scheme is scratching at you now?” Little J asked derisively.

Ryan looked at John who had received his nickname because of his small stature. Although he was part of the crew it was Morrison who made all decisions. Ryan turned his attention to Morrison and Little J fumed and took a step toward him. One of the other men held him back.

“Look Mo, you know the last venture didn’t work out as planned. But—

“For you maybe. It worked out just fine for us,” Morrison said.

“That’s why I want another shot at Treveign. He took something that was mine and he’s going to pay for that,” Ryan snapped.

“And how do you intend to accomplish that?” Mo asked.

Ryan explained his scheme. When Ryan finished his explanation Mo sat silently for a long time. Eventually he leaned forward and looked directly at Ryan. Ryan held his breath not knowing what Mo’s answer would be.
